Tunghai University Beats University of Pennsylvania, Beijing Institute of Technology, Claiming Top Three in Stanford Design Challenge alongside New York University and NMIMS

Tunghai University surpassed world-renowned institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California, Davis, and Beijing Institute of Technology, securing a top-three position alongside New York University and NMIMS School of Design in the "Global Longevity Design Challenge 2023" hosted by Stanford University. Tunghai University President Kuo-En Chang stated that the international award received by Yue-Ru Chou, a student from the Department of Industrial Design, not only recognized her hard work but also represented the achievements of Tunghai in interdisciplinary AI and liberal arts education.

 

Tunghai University claims top three alongside New York University and NMIMS School of Design in the "Global Longevity Design Challenge 2023" hosted by Stanford University.

 

The Stanford Center on Longevity is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2023. With the theme "Optimizing Healthy Lifespan: Living Well at Every Age," The international design competition attracted 241 teams from 38 countries worldwide. Yue-Ru Chou, a senior student from Tunghai University's Industrial Design Department, formed a cross-university team and presented the innovative design of the "2 Care Monitoring Tool for Periodontal Health." The work entered top three final candidates alongside New York University and NMIMS School of Design from India. This remarkable global third place award marks Taiwan's first award in this competition.

Professor Chi-Hung Lo, who supervised Yue-Ru Chou, pointed out that Chou flew to Stanford University last month to compete in the final round against the top eight teams. She delivered an excellent performance, resulting in an outstanding achievement. Yue-Ru Chou explained that she proposed this creative idea as a part of her graduation project, collaborating with students from Ming Chi University of Technology and National Taipei University of Education. She thanked the International Management Consultants (IMC) Chairperson Hsin-Chih Yeh, President Yen-Fei Liu, Life Line Taiwan President Tseng-Sheng Chen, and the generous support from Hong-Ren Zhou, an outstanding alumnus of Tunghai's Industrial Design Department, for making this design project possible.

 

According to Professor Chi-Hong Lo , the award is a benchmark competition in the design industry. Yue-Ru Chou has not only impressed the panel of 35 experts, entrepreneurs, and investors from the design and technology sectors but also gained opportunities for collaboration with businesses. Tunghai University President Kuo-En Chang praised Chou's proactive and enterprising spirit, bringing honor to Tunghai and allowing the world to see Taiwan. The University is very proud of her.
